Dear Brother Knights and Friends, Greetings to all! The Anchor Club had a very successful 2008, due to the efforts of the members of this great club. The month of October brought us to West Point on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. A tour was provided to thirty-five (35) widows and children by two extraordinary gentlemen, Major Joshua Bradley and Captain Brian Dunne from the United States Army. The club was privileged to have the assistance of Father Jack Arlotta who hosted and organized the luncheon that was provided by the club at the Sacred Heart Church, Highland Falls New York . The Month of November brought us to the Rockefeller Center for the Clubs annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The club escorted one hundred and twenty five (125) widows and children to this event where they were provided with closer access to the Christmas tree than ever before. Retired Chief Ray Powers and the Rockefeller Center staff did a great job at hosting this event for our organization. The year came to a close where the man in the big red suit gave a huge bag of toys to each child. Food, smiles and holiday cheer are plentiful. There were over one hundred and fifty (15) widows and children at this party. Danny Murphy and Mike Plante continuously do a great job at organizing the Christmas party. The New Year will bring our club back to traditional Anchorite flavor as we drift back onto the shores of Coney Island with a spectacular event there and the focus of attraction will be the New York Aquarium. The club looks forward to our annual Old Timers Night which is tentatively scheduled for April 20, 2009. We also continue to host some of our old favorites such as the Rockefeller Center Skating Outing, Police Department vs., Fire Department hockey games, fishing trips and amusement park outing. The membership will be ever faithful in completing our mission of service to all widows and children of our great Department. Please continue to recruit new members and keep out deceased members in your prayers. The anchor is a symbol of strength and support. The Anchor Club, like an anchor, provides a foundation of strength to the widows and children of our fallen brother and sister officers. We proudly follow in the long tradition of charity started by the knights of Columbus.
